Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 Lens Review

Hello once again guys,

I have another exciting review for all of you who want to upgrade or replace your standard kit lens with a superb all-around lens…I give you the SIGMA 18-50mm f/2.8!  It has a 2.8 lens all the way through and it’s great for doing team photos.  It has a nice wide angle that you can come all the way out to 18mm and on 50mm it gives you a fairly decent zoom. This lens is relatively light (weighs less than a pound) and it feels comfortable in position with the body.  The images you get are very sharp, it has good contrast, and it gives full attention to detail and color, which makes editing easier.

And, just to give you some tips and a nice arrangement when shooting individual shots or when shooting team photos: I like to zoom all the way in as wide as possible and come up real close and use my flash when shooting team photos.  However, I also like to zoom all the way out, or as much as possible, when shooting individual photos to cut out creating any “bow” that you might see.

As far as auto-focus is concerned, I find this lens to be fairly responsive, and it has a handy knob which you can easily switch between manual or automatic function and the manual focus works quite well.

Now, the best part about the sigma 18-50mm 2.8 lens is the price.  This all around lens works well at a price that’s really, really affordable. This lens costs around $420 brand new!  If you look closer at reviews and user comments on other websites, you get very consistent feedback that this lens could actually catch up in competing with the other lenses out there which costs around $1200 (Nikon, Canon, etc.)! You can check adorama.com for stats and reviews, I’m sure you’ll end up wanting to have this lens in your bag.  If you’re doing actual team photography, I definitely recommend this lens.
