NIKON 50mm f/1.8 lens Review
Hey guys, I came across this wonderful product that I would like to share with you. It’s the NIKON 50mm f/1.8 Lens. This product has had consistent rave reviews from professional photographers and enthusiasts across the globe but I still feel that I should share my 2 cents with you nonetheless.
The reason why this product has received such good feedback is because it truly delivers its job well. I couldn’t agree more with those that give this lens an 8/10 rating.
Since every photographer have different needs, it is important that you should first know yours. As for professional sports photographers like myself, I am really proud to recommend this product to you. It is great in low-light situations and it is versatile enough to be carried comfortably in your bag. Its lens can go down to f/1.8 which is extremely a fast aperture setting and you can get pretty decent shots on low light situations without a Flash – now that’s something you would love for sure. Have I mentioned it’s also good for portrait shots?
However, I rarely shoot at f/1.8 because of its shallow depth of field. To give you an idea on what I’m talking about, the depth of field is how you can have someone else’s nose on focus and the eyes are out of focus or you can have the eyes on focus and the nose is out of focus.(happens when your close enough when shooting a portrait). Unless you know what you are doing, I advise you not to use the 1.8 focus setting. I find that you need to bump it up a little bit somewhere closer to 2.8 would probably be better if you’re trying to get a really sharp picture. (you don’t have to go all the way up to 2.8 though). You just have to get used with the lens and get yourself familiar with it and see how it reacts with your camera in your lighting situations to get that sharp images that you want.
This lens is just perfect for me when used for action shots, sports and team photography, like in a basketball gym and stuff like that. This lens would never fail you. You just have to bump up the aperture a little bit because hey, you don’t want the front row in focus and the back row out of focus and your coaches out of focus too right?.. Well it’s a 50mm lens and on a digital camera it’s at 75mm lens!
One thing though, the 50mm 1.8 is a prime lens and it does not give you a lot of zoom, meaning you have to move your feet around to adjust and compose your shots. You need to have a high mega-pixel camera to be effective with the 50mm lens in shooting those things you love.
Overall guys, the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 is really a nice lens that you need to include in your bag if your gonna do sports photography or portrait photography. It’s price is also easier on the pocket – You can’t Beat it!
There are other 50mm f/1.4 lens out there that you can consider but I doubt if you can get it for less than $800, maybe you’ll see used ones around $500 to $600 but the Nikon 50mm 1.8, man… just gotta have it..This works great with a Nikon D3 and D300.
The Nikon 50mm lens is very easy to find, you can look for it through the Internet or any camera store nearby, they should have it new or used and the price range is around $100 to $130.
Happy Shooting Everyone!!!
